PLAN YOUR EXPEDITION

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the best time of year to visit and fish at WildFly?

The fishing season in Chilean Patagonia runs from mid-October to early May. The summer months (January and February) offer warmer, more stable weather, while the beginning and end of the season are the ideal times to target the most elusive trophy trout.

Do I need to bring my own fly fishing gear?

It’s not strictly necessary. Although many anglers prefer to use their own equipment, at the lodge we have high-end rods, reels, lines, and waders available for our guests, as well as an exclusive selection of flies tied specifically for our rivers.

Is previous fly fishing experience required?

Absolutely not. We design tailor-made experiences for each guest. Our professional guides are trained to instruct novice anglers, teaching everything from basic casting to reading the river, ensuring a successful and memorable day.

How do I get to the lodge?

The main connection point is Balmaceda Airport (BBA) in the Aysén Region. Once you land, our private team will be waiting to provide you with an exclusive, safe, and scenic ground transfer directly to the doors of our facilities.

Are there activities for non-fishing companions?

Yes, Wildfly Patagonia is a complete experience. Those who choose to stay away from the river can enjoy our outdoor expeditions (trekking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing) or relax in our lodge with wellness experiences, southern cuisine, and hot tubs.

What type of clothing do you recommend for the trip?

The Patagonian climate is unpredictable and can experience all four seasons in a single day. We suggest packing according to the layering system: thermal base layers, quick-drying clothing, and a good waterproof or windproof jacket. Upon confirmation of your expedition, we will send you a detailed guide with all the recommended equipment for your maximum comfort.

    Do you practice catch-and-release fishing?

Yes, at Wildfly Patagonia we have an unwavering commitment to the conservation of our ecosystems. We operate under a strict catch and release policy in all our waters, using flies with barbless hooks to ensure the protection of wild trout populations and the sustainability of the southern environment.

What species can I catch at WILDFLY PATAGONIA?

The waters of Aysén are known for wild Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout. Depending on the season, water conditions, and selected fishery, guests may also have opportunities to pursue Steelhead and King Salmon. Our fishing experiences are planned around current conditions, responsible angling practices, and the unique character of each river or lake.
