Aysén, Chile: A Fly Fishing Paradise in Patagonia

Simpson River
The Simpson River is one of the best-known rivers associated with fly fishing in the Aysén Region.
Flowing through the landscape near Coyhaique, the Simpson offers varied water and opportunities to encounter both brown trout and rainbow trout.
The surroundings are just as memorable as the fishing. Mountains, native vegetation, and the landscapes of the Río Simpson National Reserve make this one of the region’s most recognizable river environments.
For many anglers visiting this part of Chilean Patagonia, the Simpson is a river worth discovering.
Mañihuales River
North of Coyhaique lies another important name in Aysén fly fishing: the Mañihuales River.
Its varied waters, currents, pools, and natural structure create excellent trout habitat and different fishing opportunities depending on conditions and season.
Brown and rainbow trout can be found throughout the system, while migratory salmonids may also be present during certain periods.
The Mañihuales also has a special connection to Wildfly Patagonia: the Emperador Guillermo River flows into the Mañihuales, connecting our home waters to this larger Patagonian river system.
Emperador Guillermo River
This river is particularly important to us.
Wildfly Patagonia is taking shape along the banks of the Emperador Guillermo River.
Surrounded by the landscapes of Aysén, the Emperador Guillermo flows through the Patagonian countryside before joining the Mañihuales River.
Its character offers a different experience from some of the region’s larger rivers, with sections suited to wading and a more intimate connection with the water and surrounding landscape.
For Wildfly, however, the Emperador Guillermo represents much more than another place to fish.
It is part of our everyday landscape and one of the places that inspired our vision of creating an experience where fly fishing, nature, adventure, and connection with Patagonia come together.
Aysén River
The Aysén River helps illustrate just how interconnected the waterways of this region are.
The river is formed by the convergence of the Simpson and Mañihuales river systems and continues west toward the Aysén Fjord and eventually the Pacific Ocean.
It is part of a vast network shaped by mountains, rainfall, snowmelt, forests, and countless tributaries.
That abundance of water is one of the defining characteristics of Aysén — and one of the reasons the region offers such diverse opportunities for anglers and outdoor travelers.
Baker River
The Baker River is one of the most iconic rivers in Chilean Patagonia and one of the natural landmarks of the Aysén Region.
Known for its remarkable turquoise waters and powerful flow, the Baker runs through some of Patagonia’s most dramatic landscapes, surrounded by mountains, forests, and vast stretches of wilderness.
The river is also well known among anglers, with opportunities for trout fishing within its extensive watershed.
Beyond fishing, the Baker represents something that defines Aysén itself: wild water, immense landscapes, and a sense of remoteness that is increasingly difficult to find elsewhere.
